Hi, I’m Sarah Mac, and I want to help other hairdressers like myself find the self-confidence they need to navigate the beauty industry and create a career they love every day! I believe together, we can change the perception of the hairdressing industry as a whole for the better.

I knew I wanted to be a hairdresser in high school. To be completely honest, the main thing I wanted when I was 18 was to have children young and then have a career with a flexible schedule, and I always liked doing my little sister’s hair for all of her dances. All of my grandparents passed away by the time I was in junior high, and I was always envious of my friends who still had their grandparents. I wanted my kids to know my parents, and for me to know my grandchildren one day hence why I longed to be a young mom. So far, I have gotten everything I’ve wanted, just not in the order or timing I expected, lol.

My parents, mainly my dad, envisioned something different for me. My parents did not have the opportunity to go to college, so my sister and I were expected to attend a good college and earn our bachelor’s degree. My dad wanted me to be a doctor, so I earned my Bachelor’s in Biological Sciences from the University of California, Santa Barbara. When I found out in high school that my dad would not let me go straight into beauty school, I was mad and sad. Looking back now though and being a parent, I understand why they did it. As a parent you always want more for your children, including opportunities, and I see now my parents believed college was one of those experiences they wanted for me. Those were some of the best years of my life too, and I made some of the best girlfriends I still keep in touch with now.
